step 1. Its clear that they want to disappear from the conversation (you know because in conversations about race they’ve never actually had to think about themselves i.e. they’ve always been invisible….so their just like ‘ooh I wish I could just dip right now, theyre looking at me’)

step 2. this often quickly results not in an admission of the discomforting realization that they have white privilege but a reactive lashing out, privilege-denying, grandparents immigration storytelling, recalling every single moment they think they have been wronged by a person of color and calling it reverse racism, etc blah blah blah 

3. meanwhile, I’m like 

4. and then the second push back from me, the no im not going to buy your problematic arguments and I’m going to insist you acknowledge your privilege. That my friends is what pushes people to said baby gif.
