but it looks like a black man telling a black girl to hold her head up high, and not on some bougie be a lady type bullshit, but on some you are entitled to all the badass you are and you should be proud.

This is beautiful. You rarely see African-American ballerinas, especially ones my age. I would love for my future daughter to continue ballet past her childhood.

Thing is any body can learn & do ballet. I believe Balanchine played a role in promoting the aesthetic of the long-limbed, emaciated ballerina, but you don’t have to be twiggy to move beautifully. 

Pretty Much. I’m pretty sure Margot Fonteyn would’ve been too fat for Balanchine’s aesthetic. Yeah….
